A game in the style of Star Fox

Restricted Airspace is a space simulation game developed by an independent computer scientist, game designer, and educator, Ramsey Nasser. Designed for desktop plays, this lo-fi pixel art game was highly styled to the classic shooter game series created by Nintendo entitled Star Fox. It was originally made as a backer reward for the successful Kickstarter campaign to support the opening of the Wonderville arcade in Brooklyn. It remained exclusive to backers for a year, and the full game was eventually released. 

Heavily-inspired by a massive explosion in Beirut port

From its architecture and vehicle design, the whole Restricted Airspace game shows a world modeled on the 1890s Beirut and Damascus. On the fourth of August, a massive explosion immensely destroyed the port of Beirut. This game took inspiration from that horrifying event. 

However, to respect the people and the city, the developer removed the antagonists, the bombs, the explosion, the smoke, and the loss. What the game offers, instead, is an oppressive military invasion that you need to stand against. You will play as a pilot who will take a stand against the oppressors. 

Restricted Airspace's rendering style is an admiration of the early 90s look of the FX chip games on the SNES. With this, you can enjoy a little trip down memory lane as you play. However, the game is designed with a single-player mode only. It is free-to-play,  but you can also opt to voluntarily donate as the developer decided that all proceeds from this game will go towards the reconstruction of Beirut.

Action removed for a good cause

Restricted Airspace used to be a great action shoot ‘em up game. However,  all of the exciting features it had got removed for good reasons. Now, it can only be enjoyed as a relaxing game. If this idle game is not in your likes, then it is suggested for you to find a better spaceship game option that offers more combat plays such as Star Defender 4 or Galaxy Attack: Space Shooter.
